AMERICANS’ VISIT

I United Press Association.—By Electrio Telegraph.—Copyright.]

NEW YORK, September 13. At Forest Hills, the Australian Press Association interviewed Mr Daily, the President of the United States Lawn Tennis Association, who replied : “While v-e plan too cjrcu.T! »*o the Executive Committee by letter in order to ensure a prompt decision on the Australian invitation •to send a team for an approximate- Christmas visit to Australia, the Association is faced with the larger problem of a definite policy, for expeditions abroad. We dare not sacrifice young men, whose college terms . of business engagements should keep them at home, in the interests of international competition. We receive many invitations and we must ponder on the method by which we can encourage an international exchange without jeopardising the careers of rising young players particularly in their formative years. We have, therefore, created an “International Competitions” Committee, which, during October, will make definite .recommendations for a basic policy. Mr Daily would not indicate .whether personally he favoured the acceptance of the Australian policy-.” At Forest Hills, Docg won the National Singles, defeating Shields 10-A3, I—6, o—4, 16—14.
