AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS.
AGAINST LONDON CLUB TEAM. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). , LONDON, September 6. The Australian cricketers began today a match against a London Cluu eleven, which was chosen recently by the ruling London body, namely the Club Conference. The team is one composed entirely of the bank cleric class, accountants and estate agents, who are confined to Saturday afternoon cricket.
The Australians, who won the toss, and batted, had their initial experience of the larger stumps. The Conference- players, composed of fairly high standard men, were: Whitehead, Newman, Pierce, Sumners, Brindiy, Taylor, Jarvis, Smith, Percy and Grinter. Australia, in the first innings, were all out of 278 runs, There was a fairly large crowd to see the match start,
Bradman gave a bright exhibition for 75 Inihutes, making 70 runs. He hit five fours, but he was missed early by Nitzeorali, who mulled an - easy catch. Fairfax, vjho made ‘25, also had an curly life in the slips. Smith, who is the team’s fastest bowler, shaped well, as also did Brindley. An indifferent light after lunch causeu Wood full and Kippax to take no risks, and they were unable to force tlie pace. Woodful], when 69, was caught in attempting a big bit. Kippax batted soundly and scored 63. Brindley is a medium pact bowler, who represented Ceylon against Australia. The Conference Clubs’ side suffered from dropped catches.
