ARTHUR’S PASS HOSTEL
BOARD’S LOAN PROPOSAL
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association A
CHRISTCHURCH, September 4. The Government has informed the Arthur's Pass National Park Board that it is unable to guarantee a loan of £25,000, which the Board proposed to raise for the erection of a hostel for tile accommodation of visitors to the Park.
The letter of the Minister for Finance, Mr Ransom, states : “It is considered that, apart from financial which arc of paramount importance at the moment, the accommodation at the existing alpine resorts in Canterbury (provided at considerable expense by the Govern* ment), should be sufficient for the present requirements, and therefore, if further expenditure is to be incurred as proposed, the Government considers the matter should be left to private enterprise.”
