SAFE DESCENT TO EARTH

PARIS, Augusct 19

After unavailingly employing extinguishers when flying an aeroplane which caiight fire at Rochefort at a height of 12.000 feet, Tlving-officers Robins and Gautaier climbed out on the ■ wings, preparatory to parachuting to earth, but. deciding that there was a chance of saving the machine, they re-entered the fuselage. Robins shut off the engine and volplaned to earth, standing erect in the flaming cockpit. Fumes overcame Gautier, and they were both severely burned. They have been recommended for the Military Medal.
