FISHING PARTY RESCUED
MEN IN LAST STAGES OF EXHAUSTION.
SYDNEY, September 2
The missing fishing boat Felix was located near Port Stephens by the National Airways air liner while en route to Brisbane. Advice was sent to Newcastle, from which port the pilot steamer was sent up the coast and brought the Felix to safety. The three men who were aboard were in the last stages of exhaustion. They had been adrift for 56 hours. Their food had all gone and they had tried in vain to attract attention. Their engine broke down on Sunday night and they were unable to restart it. Earlier messages stated that coastal shipping had been warned to keep a look-out for the Felix. The fishing party which had left Newcastle on Sunday morning had only enough food and petrol to last the day. The boat carried no sails.*
