LEWIS BEATS SARPOLIS. (Australian Press Association) SYDNEY, Sept. 2. At the Sydney Stadium at Rushcutters Bay last evening before a record attendance “Strangle” Lewis 2441bs defeated Dr. Sarpolic 2141bs in a professional wrestling contest of eight ,ten minute rounds. ’’Strangler” Lewis gained the only Tall of the contest in the six round, with a head scissors and hammer lock. He struck Sarpolis .o hard smack on the nape of the neck and then pinned him with a body press by falling on-top of him and breaking Sarpolis’ wrist lock Sarpolis \at the time was leading on points and also had the best' of the remaining; two rounds....ln -roriifd seven Sarpolis made numerous-f-'lijdhg' leaps at Lewis ini trying to :’M£ect’ a body, scissoi s hedt, but Lewis kept running away from him all round the .ring, much tor'flit! :crowds enjoyment. Lewis had to'resort to climbing, nut oir. tlie ropes on: ininu rous occasions and tins the crowd, at times disapproved. There was 30 pounds difference in weight and Sarpolis was the most scientific wrestler, his left wrist lock, body pressure, and crutch holds having Lewis in trouble. Sarpolis was unlucky not to obtain at least one fall in the seventh round, which with one fall each, Would have given him the decision as lie was otherwise leading on points until Lewis obtained his fall. In the lastround Sarpolis made flying leaps butting Lewis numerous times in the stomach. Lewis was cautioned lor smacking with a closed fist. The wrestlers received a great ovation at- the conclusion of the contest.
