It ■was picked up by two window cleaners, Joseph McCroheir and Robert William Wallace.;-', Despite the fact it contained her. driving license with the lady’s name and address, they made no attempt to return it to, the! owner, even though the loss was advertised, but instead they attempted to sell a ring to dealer's. They thus found themselves in Court to answer a charge of theft involving a total value of the bag contents of £3l. RELIEF WORKERS DISMISSED GISBORNE, Sept. 4.

The Borough Council paid off sev-enty-five relief workers from the aerodrome job after an expenditure of over £IOOO in anticipation of an unemployment subsidy. The,Council has been notified the subsidy was not available.

All were required' to appear on Friday Each of the first two accused was allowed bail in his ow recognisance/ of £250, with one surey of a similar amount. The Northland fire station, the third district station . erected., by the Wellington Fire Board, was officially opened by Mr P. A. de la Perelle this morning. The Minister said that he. did not agree with those who .. thought such a station was ahead of its time.

The Minister made,reference, to fire; losses in the Dominion and the large part carelessness played in regard to their origin, particularly in connection with electric appliances.
