BIRTH AND DEATH RATES

The birth rate for 1929 is the loivest since the establishment of registration, and the death rate is the highest since 1919.
A statistical revieiv of England and Wales discloses the birth rate for 1929 is 16.3 per thousand, compared Avith 16.7 for 1928.
The death rate is 13.4 compared with 11.7, an increase due to the high mortality from respiratory and circulatory diseases plus the influenza epidemic.
The suicide rate Avas 126 per million, which is the highest recorded. Motor cars caused 5,799 deaths compared with 4,492 in 1927.
