HEAVY DAMAGES AWARDED
MAN STRUCK BY SERVICE CAR. HAMILTON, Aug. 28. General damages £9OO and special damages £382 were awarded to William Sylep, aged 29 years, in the Supreme Court at Hamilton, in a claim arising out of an accident on the IMamaku-Rotorua highway on Jan-, nary 25, 1929, when he was knocked olf his . motor cycle by a service car driven by Harold Bates. Plaintiff was seriously injured and his machine was damaged. • Prior to the collision plaintiff was employed as a benchman, but as a result of injuries received he was unable to work until April, 1930. He thus lost wagqs amounting to £-'2G. Since March he had been able to work as a casual employee only. Plaintiff’s injuries consisted of compouid fractures of the right ieg above ami below the knee and injuries to bis right ankle, which had permanently shortened the leg by an inch , and stiffened the ankle. He was incapable now of working as a bencmnn. Special damages totalling £7Ol 5s and £ISOO general damages were claimed.
