POLICE MENACED. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, Aug. 30. Wild scenes were witnessed at Balmain, when an inspector jof police and ten constables were menaced by a crowd of about three thousand. The police were forced to draw revolvers to protect themselves. Sixteen men were arrested and the police instructed the organisers of the unemployed meeting to abandon it. They arrested one speaker who ignored the order, and the howling mob then threatened the police, who eventually forced their way through.
