IMPERIAL CONFERENCE

MR HOLLAND’S ATTITUDE. (By Telegraph—Press Association) . WELLINGTON, August 28. Mr H, E. Holland, M.P.,’Leader of the Labour Party, complains that the Press Association report of tne uvii farewell to the Prime Minister nt Wellington on Saturday night, misrepresented him, He states that he suggested that the name of the Im A perial Conference should he changed to that of the British Commonwealth Conference, but he did not claim that by changing the name of the Conference the world’s peace would be advanced. He traced the developments in connection with Dominion status, showing how the old imperialistic idea of dictation from Downing Street was gradually giving way to a higher conception of partnerships in the British commonwealth of nations. He expressed the hope that the latter would be capable of broadening out into the world a commonwealth which would make for tlie elimination of armed conflict bebetween the nations—in other words, for the dethronement of the god of war, and the enthronement of the prince of peace.
