BOWLING
EMPIRE BOWLERS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Received this day at noon.) NEW YORK, Aug. 28. The Empire bowlers were honoured at a luncheon by the British Luncheon Club. At Mr Brooke’s suggestion, the Club sent a wireless message to Mr Scullin conveying a resolution of sympathy, and wishing him success at the Imperial Conference. Mr Brookes lauded the bowlers, saying: “Their influence in Britain and America was far greater than if they were official ambassadors.” The bowlers have accepted an invitation to play Montclair (New Jersey) on Saturday. Harry Furze, a. former President of the American Bowling Association, said plans were under way for a bowling tournament between America, Britain, Australia, South Africa, Irish and Scottish teams in conjunction with the 1932 Olympics at Los Angeles. Mr Alley stressed the need of Empire unity. During liis travels he had observed idleness in England, for which be blamed the apparent unwillingness to purchase British goods,
