DIVIDED COUNSELS

OYER MELBOURNE SHIPPING SERVICE. (By Telegraph- -Per Press Assooiuuuu.i INVERCARGILL, Aug. 28. Reiteration of their previous support extended to the claims for the Government subsidy for .a South Island to Melbourne shipping service was expressed at the meeting of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce this evening. The meeting strongly opposed the attitude of the Southland Executive of the Farmers’ Union in recently passing a resolution urging the witliurawal of the subsidy, and it was stated that that resolution appeared to. have been passed without careful consideration. The Bluff Harbour Board passed the hollowing revolution: — “That this Board considers that the Bluff-Mel-bourne service is a very important matter to the Board and 1 to the, South Island as a whole, and that the maintenance of this service is of vital importance to the financial position of the Board; and the members deprecate the attitude taken up bv the Farmers’ Union, and ask that Union to reconsider its decision.”
