BOOT TRADE DISPUTE.

WELLINGTON, Aug. 27
The Dominion boot trades industrial dispute is proceeding in the Arbitration Court. An increase of the minimum rate is (being sought by the Union to 2s (kl per hour. ' In regard to female workers the Union asks a. weekly wage and weekly employment, instead of the present hourly rate. The employers want a renewal of the present award basing their opposition to the claims on the economic position of the Dominion and industry itself.
TOOK POISON
AUCKLAND, Aug. 27
Arthur Herbert Sc-aratt, 32, living at Point Chevalier, with friends, walked into an hotel convenience yesterday at 4.30 and took poison. He was found by a barman and sent to the hospital where he died an hour later.
WOMAN BADDY BURNT
PAHIATUA, Aug. ,127.
A young woman, Myrtle Wiggins, formerly of Petone, wife of Archibald Joseph Wiggins, of Mangatainoka, was admitted to the hospital late yesterday afternoon suffering from severe burns on the hands, arms and body, sustained by her clothes catching alight while placing, a kettle on a fire on a. range, Her condition is critical,
LOST MEN SAFE,
TE KUITI, August 27
Three men, R. Knapp, J. Newton, and E. Meredith, who were lost in the bush for three days in Pukemako district, turned up .safely yesterday afternoon. They were members of a hunting party and lost their way, but are no worse for their adventure.
DIVORCE CASES
CHRLSTCHURCH, Aug. 27
Divorce cases heard in the Supreme Court included Alexander Michael Thomson, a groom of Greendale, petitioned for divorce from Mary Thomson and named. Leslie A, Colee as corespondent. The jury awarded petitioner £6OO damages. It was ordered that of this sum £3OO be placed with the Public Trustee for the benefit of the children. A decree nisi to bo moved absolute at the expiration of three months was made. In the calse of Ivan Henry Ashley Smith v. Kathleen Smith, naming Dan O’Loughlin as co-respondent, the jury awarded £2OO damages ngainst co-respondent. a. deiiree nisi was granted.
AN INQUEST.
CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 27.
The inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Elizabeth Irvine, aged 30, who was knocked off a bicycle in Riiccarton Rond by n. motor car driven by Edgar Clement Mann on the. evening of August 2nd. was held by Mr Young, S.M., and the folloing verdict was returned that deceased died from injuries received through being knocked off her bicycle by h motor-ear. If Mann had been keeping a proper look out he should have been able to see the cyclist in front of him. The accident was due to Mann not keeping a proper lookout. The brakes on the car were ineffective but even if they had not been so, the accident would not have been averted. The matter of faulty brakes and bad lights was for the police,
