VACANT DWELLINGS

QUESTION OF HALF RATES

r ßy Telegraph, Per Press Association.]

AUCKLAND, Aug. 27

The Auckland City Council and the local bodies have been recently acting on the opinion expressed by Mr Justice Blair, some months ago, that own-, ers of properties other than dwellings are not entitled to a rebate, of half rates when the premises have been vacant for six months.

A committee, representing; the Property Owners and Real Estate Institute, has now been set up to have the matter rectified by taking a case to the Court, of Appeal, and if unsuccessful to endeavour to have the law amended.

It 1r contended that the obvious intion was to give the benefits of the rebate to all owners of rented property.
