AUSTRALIAN SUGAR INDUSTRY

AN ENQUIRY TO BE HELD. (By Telegraph—Press Association). (Received this day at 9.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Aug. 23. The Committee of Inquiry into the sugar industry consists of eight members with J. Gunn, Commonwealth Director of Development, as Chairman. Every phase of the sugar industry will be represented thereon. The inquiry will cover costs, profits, manufacturing conditions, the necessity for the continuance of present prohibition oi importation of sugar, the effect of the present sugar prices in manufacturing industries and fruit processing, values of land used for sugar growing, alien penetration into the sugar industry and other aspects of the business.
