It has been decided that the Alls sion of the Duke of Gloucester to attend the coronation bf the Emperor of Ethiopia will leave London foi Addis Ababa towards the middle ol October, arriving in Ethiopia at the end of the month. [Ethiopia (or .Abyssinia) is a mountainous, volcanic country in northeast Africa, bounded by Eritrea (Italian) on the north, British Somaliland fßerbera) and Italian Somaliland o the east, Kenya bn the south, am the Sudan on the west. The agricultural and mineral resources bf the country are practically undeveloped, and its wealth of water power is unrised. Bv diplomatic agreement in 1926 between Ethiopia, Great Britain and Italy, flie British were empowered to build a. dam at Lake Tsana, the source of the Blue Nile, for the irrigation of the Sudan and the Italians to build a railway b'‘ tween Eritrea and Italian Somali land. Ethiopia was admitted to Mi League of Nations in 1923. The political institutions are of a feudal character, analogous to early medieval Europe. Addis Ababa, the capital, has a population of about 80,000. Ras Taffani was proclaimed heir to the throne in 1916, and was crowned Negus (king) in October, 1928.]
