WHISKY TARIFF
PROJECT DROPPED. (By Telegraph—Prass Aseooiatfoo). CHRISTCHURCH, August 14. Representatives of the great whisky distilleries in Scotland hurried to )ie«Zealand from Australia when the new duties on spirits were announced. They were chiefly interested in the possibility of escaping the payment of increased duty, in part, by bottling from bond in New Zealand, but Parliament has since provided against any loss of revenue from any such source. .Mr \V. K. Carden. Australian and New Zealand manager for the Distillers Agency Ltd.. Edinburgh, said that the latest announcement, of th Prime Minister, with the restoration of the allowance on underproof spirit, had changed the position and there would he no, advantage in bottling in New Zealand.
