Telograpk—Per Press Association.) THE HOUSE. WELLINGTON, Aug. 14, In the Hjo use of Repiresenjtatives the Customs Amendment Bill was further considered in committee. Mr Wright’s amendment to reduce the petrol tax to iivpence was defeated by 53 to 17. The Prime Minister intimated that in view of the strong feeling against the tax he was prepared to meet the House to the extent of reducing it to sixpence. He moved an amendment to that effect and it was adopted by 45 to 24. The committee stage having 'been completed, the Bill was then read a third time and passed. The House rose at 6 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. to-morrow. ( THE COUNCIL.
Tn the Legislative Council the Crimes Amendment Bill was read a Mu-olid time pro forma and referred to Statutes Revision Committee. The Council adjourned at 2.35 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
