PRISONERS ESCAPE
FROM PAPARUA. (By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, August 8. A prisoner escaped from Paparua Prison this evening. The discovery was made at six o’clock when the roll was called. The man has not yet been recaptured. The escapee is Timothy Edward Cosgrave, who is serving a ■sentence of three years for breaking entering and theft. Cosgrave has been working by himself in stables attached to the prison. He was a parole prisoner. He was not under close supservision. Cosgrave is a bushman, aged 47, and is isx feet three inches in height. He has still the major portion of his sentence to serve, as lie was committed in May. His sentence wins for having stolen on February 16 a handbag containing four hundred pounds, the wages oif employees of a sawmill in the Longwood district, Southland. Cosgrave filched the bag from the mill locomotive while the man in charge was off guard. He was arrested at Round Hill, Southland, two days after the robbery. All the money was recovered, except £47.
