Friction on'the Kamchatka fisheries continues and the situation is more serious. Japanese steamers report they were attacked, o lithe 31st July by a Russian steamer, four shells penetrating one of the hulls being recently armed. They replied with gunfire repulsing the assault.

It is just revealed that Lord Birkenhead has contracted bronchial pneumonia. It is stated his condition was somewhat grave on Sunday, but to-day he is regaining strength.
