POLICE COM Ml SIGNER INTERVIEWED.

In an interview yesterday the new Polite Commissioner, Air W. G. W'oblimum, stated no definite policy had yet been formulated, but a reduction of the police-grant by £15,000 had made it necessary that the work of the Department should be carried on as economically as possible. Nothing drastic, such as reductions in wages'or staffing, was intended, but when transfers or worn firms wei'e necessary, cosits of transport would ha-ve to be considered.
ST HELENS HOSPITALS
WELLINGTON, Aug. 6
The approval of the admission of sixth year medical -students of St. Helens Hospitals for experience in •bstetrical work has been placed on record by the principal branches of the Young Women’s Christian Association in New Zealand. The directors of (branches in Wellington, Auckland, hristchurch, Dunedin, Timaru. Gisborne, New Plymouth, and Whangarei have approved' of the continuance of the present arrangement under supervision of a medical officer or a matron.
