PLUNKET BALL

■A. The' first Annual Fancy Dress Masquerade Ball of the Plunket Society was held in the Harihari Hall on Aug. Ist., and it proved one of the most enjoyable entertainments of the year. The musicj supplied by the Ross Orchestra (Miss Parker, Messrs Parker, Ableson, Bridgman, Houlahan and Barlthrop) was very inspiring, the old tunes encouraging many who had not .danped" for many a day, to again re"riew ; a little of their youth as was evinced by a quartette, which arrived k little late, but made up for their by the zest they entered intdftliA spirit of carnival that prevailed. There was a Grandma and Grandad of 40 years ago, and a patriarchal.• Druid with a dark-skinned lady oni' his arm. “Grandad” showed his appearance belied his activity, for he possessed as much Energy as the younger dancers. Messrs G. Robertson and Gordon Fordrcarried out the duties of M.C.’s, and prizes were donated, by the following: Messrs A. Steele and Harley and ,Co. (Gyeymouth), Stopforth and Mcliiay’4‘(Hdkitika), Mesdames Chisnall, ■McKay, Graham, Robertson, Dealrin and Rowley. 1

The prettiest lady’s fancy dress was .won by Miss L; Ohisnall as a butterfly; the best drefcsed by Miss E. Mine.han as a Russian dancer; most original, Miss K. Adamson, gold tipped cigarette /and second original, Miss Heivoklt “Branch of the Mustard Club.” %Men:—Best dressed, Mr J. Graham, “Brigade”; original, Mr T. Kelly, “Froth Blower.”

. .The “Lucky-Spot” was won by Mrs E. Searie and Mr McMillan ; the Monte Carlo waltz by Miss T. Mitchell and Mr G. Ford, and the Waltzing by Mr Jy Grfihain and Miss E. Minehnn. During the evning a “Jockey Dance” was danced .by Messrs Cliisnall and Rowley.
