RACING

GREY DISTRICT COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Grcymouth District Committee was held yesterday afternoon. In the absence of Mr T. E. Coates, Mr W. Parfitt presided over the following members: Messrs D. J. Evans, A. E. Kilgour. A. Reban and W. B. Gilbert. An application was received to have two owners placed on the unpaid forfeit list. The Secretary intimated that both had received notice from him, and it was decided that they had given seven days to'reply, otherwise their names will Fe' forwarded on.

The Secretary of the N.Z. Racing Conference forwarded a letter asking that any cases' of misdemeanour brought under the notice of the Committee, be dealt with as soon as possible. The Chairman brought up the matter of the recent increase in racing taxation. He said that it would he well for the Committee to fall in line with other clubs and enter its protest. The Secretary said that a communication. had been received from Mr Sellars, Secretary of the Conference, stating that the'Prime Minister wars receiving a deputation on July 30 and asking the Greymoutli Club to join in the protest against the increase. In reply the Club had wired the Prime Minister, to the effect that it protested against the increase, but if it were to be persisted in, that the prohibition against sending betting tee-gi-nnw be lifted. The Prime Minister had replied that he would note the nrotest, and give the matter consideration. It was decided that the District Committee enters its protest against the increased taxation., and also, advocate the lifting of the restrictions against the sending of telegram/5, and the publication of dividends. A vote of sympathy was passed with the family and relatives ot the lute J. Belian, Mr A. Beban acknowledging the tribute.
