DRINK IN DANCE HALLS
SOCIAL WORKERS’ DEPUTATION
By Telegraph, Per Press Abjociation.] WELLINGTON August 1. A deputation organised by the Women’s Social Progress Movement, waited on the Hon. Mr Cobbe, to ask for legislation in connection with the drinking of intoxicating liqours at cabarets and dance halls. Miss M. McLean said that if cabarets and dance halls were clearly included in the definition of “Restaurant,” in the Sale of Liqour Restrictions Act, all would be plain. Evidence of drinking, disturbances, and even deaths ,she said, have caused social workers to realise that there was urgent necessity for immediate action. Other speakers added supporting remarks. Mr Cobbe promised that the matter would have his serious consideration.
