The “Daily Mail’s” Nice correspondent says Major Coats, a member of the cotton thread firm, playing baccarat against open bank stakes of four thousand sterling left tbe table to get refreshments. He instructed the croupier to continue four thousand bets till lie returned. He fell into conversation with a friend, forgetting the time and when he returned he found he owed sixty thousand sterling.
