t United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] LONDON, July 30. King George is having his first holiday afloat for two years, on board the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert. With Queen Alary he has gone for a cruise for Cowes week.
CHILDREN SMOTHERED. BY FALL OF SAND CLIFF. LONDON, July 31. A party of children were playing in a sand pit at St.' Helen’s, when thousands of tons of sand fell, killing three and injuring ten. Those rescued were black from partial suffocation. Tt was explained that the children, by constantly playing “seaside,” had undermined the side of the sand cliff.
FIRST SEA LORD. RUGBY, July 31. The appointment of Admiral Sir Frederick Field, as First Sea Lord, in succession to Admiral of the Fleet, Sir Charles Madden, dated from Wednesday. Sir Charles Madden, who was appointed to the post in July, 1927 has spent over half a century in the
aval service. He is 77 years of age. Admiral Field is -19 years of age. He service in 1884. He relinquished command of the Mediterranean Fleet last May.
