AMERICAN’S EASY WIN
[United Press Association —By Electric Tolegraph.—Copyright.] LONDON, July 28. In liis fight with Young St-ribling, Phil Scott cut an inglorious figure. Forty thousand people clamoured for admission to the fight, which it was -recognised, meant a greatfi'step for the British champion towards the world’s title. However, Scott was roundly hooted when, within a few minutes of the start, he took the count, and left the ring crestfallen. Scott at no time appeared a match for the quick-moving,, clever Strihling. Almost before the crowd realised that the fight had commenced, Scott was down for a count of nine. Three times he was oil the floor in the first round. The American delivered blow after blow without any return from Scott. At the beginning of the second round ,Scott led a left, and then another, and lie appeared to be finding his feet, but; it Was only a flash in the pah, after which Strihling forced jtbifeypacey fellihg Scott' with a. right swing to the •lieiid, and a right and left to the body. VV! v . ' : -' Scott, was 'oil one knee for the count q/ ten.' 1 •' It was’evident at the commencement that Scott’s'weak spot'was his stomach, to which Strihling paid marked attention. The crowd was easily a .record one for any fight here. V- ■' ; ~ ■ OTAGO AMATEUR FINALS. ■ DUNEDIN, July 29.
