TIMBER TRADE
DEPUTATION TO PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July #3. An investigation of tne timber industry was promised to a deputation of Members of Parliament to-day by Air Forbes. In the opinion of the deputation, the industry was being crippled because of unfair dumping of American timber into the Dominion. The members urged if a prohibitive tariff was placed on foreign timber, the sawmills would absorb most of the unemployed. It was also suggested that New Zealand might bargain with Canada as between timber from Canada and butter from this country. Mr Forbes promised that an inquiry would he held into the position this session.
