SUSPICIOUS FIRE

WOMEN VICTIMS

(Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, July 18. The Coroner to-day investigated the VauxlialJ) Chambers fire, which was responsible for the deaths of Mrs and' Miss Miller (late of New Zealand) on June 13th. The chief witness was Edward Peach, a commission agent, an ocoupant of the fourth floor, where the fire originated and spread to the caretaker’s quarters above. He admitted being a heavy cigarette smoker, and that he threw, butts on the floor, and also that portion of Ills goods were of celluloid. The Coroner returned a verdict of accidental death in. the case of the two victims. The Coroner added that the circumstances were gravely suspicious, but that there was nothing definite against any person. He deeply sympathised with the husband.
