It is pleasing to be able to record a steady but slow improvement in butter quotations throughout the month. Messrs W. Weddell and Co. Ltd. cabling last week, state that the market has advanced on account of small shipments from Siberia, which lias caused Germany to buy heavily all classes of Contineneal’ blitters. There has been drv weather on. the Continent, which is causing reduce! consumption. They state that they anticipate a firm market with a possibility of a gradual advance in prices. It must be remembered, however, that stocks in the United States of America show a surplus of approximately 10,000 tons over the stocks at the same time last year, whilst as will he seen from the above figures, the stocks in New Zealand at the 30th. June are also much heavier than at the 30th. June 1929. They cable that although the warmer weather stimulated consumption to the United .Kingdom, there is a hack of demand., They do not think that the cheese market- is likely to advance grea.tlv. owing to the heavy production in Great Britian and in Canada. Latest cables advise that Canadian cheese is being offered freely at 76s 6d or June shipment.
