RATE OF WAGES
ACPI ON BY CITY COUNCIL,

WELLINGTON, July 11
The City Council rejected a motion that in view ot the increased subsidy paid by the Government on, loans raised for the relief of unemployment, the award rate of wagqs be paid to all men on standard works. It was lost by 10 to 4, only the Labour members voting for it.
Other members strongly objected to the drain on, the public and the burden thrown on the municipality. Prices, it was urged, muslt came down, including wages for labour.
The Secretary of the Labourers Union stated after this decision was known, ~that the matter would probably be referred to superior labour bodies.
