NOT HOPEFUL
NEXT YEAR’S CHEESE
Reviewing the position of the cheese markets, Mr Hine, acting-chairman of the New) Zealand Dairy Produce Board, says:—“The suggestion that the exportable surplus from Canada is likely to be larger than last year appears well based, as the Canadian gradings for the first three weeks of the season ‘show ft considerable increase. Furthermore, the quality, high as it has Ibeen, shows a slight imprpvemteojt. 'This past year (has shown that Canada need never fear of finding a market for increased quantities of her cheese, given a maintenance of her usual quality. “It is of interest to note that moderate quantities of South African cheese are being shipped to England, 6000 crates arrived there during the last week of April. The quality is reported to be good, and London reports indicate that there is an excellent demand for larger quantities than can be supplied. “It appears likely that our new season’s cheese, which may he in increased quantities, will meet greater competition than during this past season. Unless some improvement is brought about in quality, the future is not especially hopeful.”
