FEWER TRAVELLERS

In 1929 there was a substantial drop in the numbers of New Zealanders wiio left the Dominion for purposes of business or pleasure. There had been a similar situation in 1925, followed by an increase of 1399 in 1926, when temporary departures totalled 15,157. The 1927 total, 16,659, was the highest vet recorded, and then followed a decrease of 584. in 1928, and 1461 in 1929. The year 1927 was also a record for permanent departures of persons formerly resident in New Zealand. The official figures were- 4145, from which there was a decrease to 3954 in 1928, and to 3093 in 1929.
