STRUCK AT WANGANUI

WANGANUI, July 7.

The .Wanganui Harbour Board, at a special meeting to-day; struck, a rate of three-eights, of a penny jn the pound on thfe capital value in the. city, of Wanganui,, and of three 7 sixteenths of a penny in the pound in the counties of;Wanganui and Waitornr, This is the first .time that a Board has levied a rate. The reason given is that the exports-have'been reduced by half, owing to the producers holding their produce back, in the-hope of a better market. The ■ coal deadlock in Australia - has also been responsible for a loss to the Board Y>f between £‘3ooo and £4000;
