UNCONSCIOUS ON LOAD

OAMAIIU, July 6
At an early hour this morning, Robert Gibson, a single man, aged 38 years, was found in an unconscious condition at the Waitaki Bridge, and was removed to the Oanmiu Hospital, suffering from grave head injuries. Gibson bad evidently been knocked down by a motor car, which did not stop. He regained consciousness this evening, but bis condition was otherwise unchanged.
BOYS CONVICTED.
OF SETTING SCHOOL AFIRE
WANGANUI. July 5
Two youths under 14 were before the Children’s Court to-day, charged with setting fire to the Wanganui' East School on June 15th, destroying books valued at £24, the property of tlie Committee, and £8 12s 4d the property of scholars. On the latter charge, the Magistrate, Mr Salmon, used powers under the J.P. Act afid ordered a whipping. On the other charge, one boy who never had been in trouble previously was placed under the care of the Superintendent a condition being that he (spend six months in an institution. The other boy Was placed under the care of the Superintendent, if necessary, till , lie is 21. years old. LAD CYCLIST KILLED. ASHBURTON, July 7. George Morton MacKenzie, aged 16, stepson of Frederick, Aldridge of tinwald, died from a fractured skull a,s the result of being struck by a motorcar while cycling on the main south road to Tinwald about 7 o’clock on Saturday evening. The car was driven by Oswald Jones of Pleajsant Point. Death was almost immediately after his admission to the hospital.

AUCKLAND WIFE MURDER
CHARGE.
WELLINGTON, July 4
A petition for re-trial has been forwarded to the Executive Council by Messrs Bell and Speight, solicitors on behailf of Arthus Thomas Munn, who was found guilty on a charge of murdering his wife at Auckland. The. application is made in terms of Section 447 of the Crimes Act, which states: “Where on application for the mercy of- the Crown on behalf of any person convicted of crime, tlid Gov-ernor-in-Council entertains ’ doubt whether such person.. ought to have been convicted, he may instead of remitting or commuting sentence, after such inquiry, as be thinks proper, by order in writing direct a new trial, at such, time and, before .such, Court as he thinksproper.” , , ; ,. His chest was crushed and both legs were lacerated below the knee.
