CHRISTCHURCH,’ July 3

Stating that there had been several eases of eloping lately, Dr G. M. Louisson suggested, at the annual meeting of the Metropolitan Trotting Club, last evening, that at the big meetings, it should be a routine practice tor the club’s veterinary surgeon to go and examine two or three horse's-—not necessarily suspected horses—in order to show trainers that the committee had the matter in view.

“We know perfectly well that dop ing does go on,” said Dr Louisson, “and if this was done, it would put an end to it; If dope was discovered in a horse then the trainer should be responsible, lii answer .to a question, Dr Louisson said lie was not referring to one sort in particular, trotting or racing. The chairman said that the matter would he considered by the committee After all, trotting, along with all sports, had to stand up to a good deal of suspicion. Everything possible should bo done to keep it clean.
