A CHASE ACROSS COUNTRY.

NEW PLYMOUTH, July 2. W Chasing a man, first in a car, then across country j, Detective, Kearney v effected a ■ capture hear; 1 Bell, Block today. As a result a man aged 34 will' be charged with being found unlawfully on the premises of the New Plymouth Golf Club, but not sb f as to show intention of committing a crime. The nurses’ home at New Plymouth was entered , by someone on Tuesday. One of the nurse later reported the loss of £6 and six probationers lost their wages. Other' incidents that have placed the police on the qui vive lately have been thefts from golf houses at Wanganui and Hawera. This morning the police telephoned to tbe wife of the caretaker at the New Plymouth golf house on the main north road a mile past the borough boundary, to watch for a man wearing a navy blue suit and felt hat. She saw a man answering the description standing pn a putting green. She asked J. Lanibie, the golf professional, to keep the man in conversation while she communicated with the police. When Mr Lambie arrived on the scene the visitor was' coming out of the ladies’ dressing room, Detective Kearney gave chase. The man made a bolt for the road, with the detective and a taxi driver in hot pursuit; He ,ran towards wkitara. Leaving the taximan to come on in the car the detective; followed on ifoot until a passing car gave him a lift. The quarry jumped a fence : and ,i made a cross country. The detective eventually made his capture iii a cow yard.
