DAYLIGHT SAVING

MAYOR, ARCHER’S SUGGESTION

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.

CHRISTCHURCH, July 3

“T think any extension of daylight saving that is considered necessary in order to relieve the demands for electric power in the North Island should apply equally to the South Island,” said the Mayor, Rev. .T. TC. Archer today. Mr Archer added that he felt sure that the citizens would welcome a longer period of daylight saving, and also an extension of the time from half an hour to an hour. From personal contact with a large number of people representing all classes of the community and from the opinions expressed at numerous public meetings, he was quite satisfied that most of the opposition to daylight saving had now disappeared.
