WATER SUPPLY

The Foreman (Mr F. Chesterman) in the course of a verbal report on if-i.e 'progress qf the . water works pipe laying at Kanieri Lake stated the new pipes had boon coupled up

over a week ago and had proved very satisfactory there being only one or two very slight seepages which were closing up. Alter turning on the water through the new pipes a portion of the line further down had given way owing to the. extra pressure. He had taken up some of the pipes from the disused portion and had repaired the break. 'The water was now running through to the reservoir. He calculated that there was about double the quantity of water passing through the pipes near Ward road than was the case with the old pipe line. There was a considerable increase on the pressure at the penstock at the power house. The Town Clerk reported that the night the water was turned on the depth of water in the reservoir increased by nearly five feet.—Received. The Mayor said the report was a very satisfactory one. The work had cost a good deal more than had been expected but a very good job was being made The Council rose at 8.5 p.m.
