WELLINGTON, June 26
Arrangements are being made by the Alinister of Public Works for the prompt absorption of the bulk ot the hundred and seventy men who have been thrown out of employment a* a result of the closing down of Arapuni.
Aleeting this morning a deputation consisting of Mr C. H. Clinkard. ALP. for Rptorua, and representatives of the New Zealand Workers’ Union, Hon. Air Taverner agreed to have immediate steps taken tor the employment of fifty of the married men upon Kotorua-Tanpo road construction and he intimated that a further fifty men would be required for the observation and exploration tunnel drives a.t Arapuni. This left approximately seventy men for whom no work at present was available, and be ‘promised to make inquiries to see wiiat work could be provided for these men handy to and possibly at Arapuni.
