GOLD BONUS

£1 AN OUNCE ASKED FOR

(Australian Press Association)

CANBERRA, June 26

The Federal Prime Alinister, Hon. J. H. Scullin, received to-day a deputation representing the goldfields communities of the Commonwealth, who asked the Government to provide a bonus of 20s for every ounce of gold produced in the Commonwealth within the next ten years .

'Phe deputation argued that such a bonus would stimulate the gold industry, and would also help to solve the unemployment problem. Air Scullin replied that he wa.s not impressed with the arguments advanced. Such a bonus might mean the expenditure of a huge sum, even with no assurance of n wonderlul revival of the mining industry, such as had been pictured to him. However, said All' Scullin, lie would promise to submit their representations to the Cabinet.
