On a charge of travelling on the Komata from Westport to Wellington without, .first paying his fare, Charles Bradman, a miner , aged 41 years, waslined £3, in default? seven days. The police said lie came from Australia in November and. had been in Westport looking .for work, which had been promised him, hut as this was sonic time ahead, lie decided to come to AYellington. He bought a ticket and lived on the boat for three or four days while it was bar bound. On the third day Tie cashed the ticket at the Union Company’s office but when the boat was due. to sail next day, he went aboard and it was not discovered lie did ‘not have the ticket until the ship was at sea. He had eleven shillings on him then..

Judgment for £66 in a claim of £338, was given by the Magistrate in the ease of Josephine Wilson Smith versus Hon. O. F. Nelson.. Plaintiff claimed for damages which she alleged were due to the negligent use of her home by defendant during his tenancy. ...... Good progress is being made by the Government in the developing of two blocks of land for settlement, one of two thousand acres good pumice land fifteen miles from Rotorua on Atianiuri side, and the other an area of tire hundred acres at Tekaiwhata. formerly a wattle plantation. Portion of the former block will be laid in grass and fenced' prior to settlement, and will lie laid out into nice sized larms. On the latter block the clearing is done, and an amount of ploughing completed.
