At Marseilles the Customs officials seized more than a ton of heroin, cocaine and' opium, which was contained in 38 cases, and is valued at £30,000. The drugs were brought from Turkey by an Italian “steamer, where the bills of lading recorded eases of dried fruits, powdered gum and boric acid. Five cases aboard the Peninsula and Oriental Coy’s steamer" “Rajputna,” were first opened, then the drums were found containing the rest of the consignment.
