LONDON, June 20
Unexpectedly it was Hobson who made the most heroic British effort against a fierce American attack on tiie golf championship'. He played so well that it only required fours for the last two holes for him to equal Bobby Jones, but he missed a six-foot putt. Cotton has not quite lived up to expectations, chiefly owing to an attack of “hooking.” The British hopes now centre on Compton.
