WELLINGTON, June 17
A deputation from tlie New Zealand Alliance waited on the Minister or Just no to-day. asking lor immediate drastic action to put down law breaking oy licensed liquor sellers. It wa.s stated that if the police were not ignorant of the offences, they were guilty of a grave dereliction of duty, or if impotent, then it -was the duty of the Government to give them power
Commissioner Mellveney said the )>oii(e investigated all cases in which there was a complaint and took action in every case that came, to their knowledge. He pointed out that direct evidence was difficult, yet -lie "•onld sec to the best of his ability, that the law was enforced. ine jvlßlister gave an assurance that illegal trading would not he allowed to override the law.
