OVERSEAS VISITORS

ON BOARD THE ULIMAROA

AUCKLAND, June 10

The Ulimaroa, which arrived from Sydney this morning, brought 220 passengers. Included amongst them were a number of tourists, some of whom have travelled in various countries of the world. Several have come from the Dutch East Indies and the Malay States, and, after seeing New Zealand, will embark on the Aorangi on July 1 for America, en route to England and the Continent, A noted Gennnn journalist, Dr Max Jordan, who is on a world tour, was amongst the passengers. Dr Jordan js correspond’ nt fo; tlie ‘'Berliner Tageblatt,” as well as being the re* presontniiive of the Consolidated Press of America. He Ims been journeying through the East, writing article* for his papers. “I have heard so much about. New Zealand,’' he said, “that T was determined to have a look at it before I Went back to Holland and Germany.” Dr Jordan will go to 'Wellington, this evening, nnd will return to Auckland via Rotorua. He will join the Tofua on Friday to “do” the. Islands, and. will then travel to Honolulu. America and England. • ‘‘l come '.from the place where the oranges grow and where the sun shines all the year round,” said Mr J. R. Porter, of Orange, California, who, with. Mrs' Porter, lias been touring the East. They will lie in the Dominion till July 1.

Captain a! H. Thorpe, who for many years was hatbQurmaster at Lyttelton, and who .is now resident in Melbourne, is. on bis second visit to the Dominion within nine months. Captain Thorpe retired about eight years ago, and makes periodical trips to New Zealand to see his relatives.
