PARLIAMENTARY.
MB LEE MARTIN’S IDEA
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
HAMILTON, June 11'
Speaking at the Central Power Boards luncheon to-day, Mr AY. Lee Martin, M.P. in replying to the toast “Members of Parliament” stated that in the interests of the couiitrj, it was advisable to make a change in the system of Government. The Uppoi House should he done away with, and the membership of the Lower House should be reduced. Instead of the large number of members sitting in the House of Representatives, half of them would suffice for the country’s needs. Three members for Auckland would accomplish more than the elcien did at present.
He said that the question of Party should not arise in cases of finance. That was a national subject. If there were less of the party business in Parliament, there would be less difficulties encountered. The Party system should he abolished, and every man should stand for himself on his merits.
