TTMARU, June 11

The annual conference of the League of Nations’ JJnion of New Zealand ..opened here this afternoon. Most of the branches, throughout the Dominion were represented. Prior to the commencement of business, the delegates were accorded a civic reception by the Mayor, Mr W. Anglan.d. A welcome was also extended the visitors by the Rev. Gladstone Hughes, President of the local branch, and the Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P. The welcome was acknowledged on behalf of the delegates by the Rev. J. Gild), D.D., Wellington, the Dominion President.

Following the presidential address, the conference adjourned until tomorrow. In the evening a public meeting was held at which four addresses were given on the relationship of the League of Nations to the churches. to the schools, to the workers. and to New Zealand. Hie conference ~ continues to-morrows and on Friday. '• "
