MELBOURNE, June 12

Of six horses which fell, two were killed and two jockeys seriously inhired it the hurdle and steeplechase races at Mentone.

At the first jump in the Hurdles, Mmvrna Lad crashed, breaking his neck, and the jockey. Townsend’s, skull was fractured Humerus came down over Moorna Lad and had to he destroyed. White, the rider of Winks, injured his wrist. In the Steeples, Tabralong fell at the .second fence and brought down Sir Eaton. Trounson, the rider ot Tabralong, had the base of his skull fractured.

MeTnnes had an amazing escape when his mount, Quintain, fell. The '-orse struck him a terrible blow on the head, but « skull cap saved bim.

The condition of Townsend and Trounson is critical.
